He glides over his hurdles and takes a lot of pegging back from the front. This is much his toughest assignment so far but he has been clocked some excellent times and looks well up to this standard. He goes on any ground and has no stamina worries. MADARA (1.50 Cheltenham, nb) He was a massive eyecatcher on debut for the Skeltons in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month. He was a mile back jumping three out before picking up strongly to power up the hill into an ever-closing fourth. Harry Skelton takes over from his less experienced rider today and now connections know he stays, he will hopefully be ridden closer to the pace. AMBIENTE AMIGO (12.10 Cheltenham, treble) She pulled away her chances when third at Newbury last time but Harry Cobden takes over today and she will hopefully settle better on this third run over timber. She was useful on the Flat and had plenty in hand when scoring on her hurdles debut at Newcastle. There’s more to come from James Owen’s filly who gets valuable weight from the boys. Templegate's TV verdicts CHELTENHAM SAT 12.10 AMBIENTE AMIGO pulled away her chances when third at Newbury last time but Harry Cobden takes over today and she will hopefully settle better on this third run over timber. She was useful on the Flat and had plenty in hand when scoring on her hurdles debut at Newcastle. There’s more to come from James Owen’s filly who gets valuable weight from the boys. The yard also run Lavender Hill Mob who was beaten at 2-7 on debut at Newcastle. He is certain to improve on that. Total Look is a threat after his debut success at Navan last month. Trainer Gavin Cromwell has a cracking record at Cheltenham and his hope comes from a useful hurdling family. Quantock Hills was a winner in France and has done well since joining Warren Greatrex. He had seven lengths in hand when winning at Fontwell last time and deserves this crack at a much higher level. Teriferma has left Joseph O’Brien with two hurdles wins on his CV. He has shown his best over this trip but faces stiffer opposition here. Moutarde enjoyed a drop in class when winning easily at Kempton last time but this is tougher. 12.40 TRANSMISSION was impressive when scoring over course and distance last time out. That was just his second run over fences in the UK and the handicapper has been more than fair with a 3lb rise. There’s more to come. Peaky Boy won on his chasing debut here over 2m4f but stormed up the hill so this longer trip should be ideal. Nicky Henderson’s hopeful jumped well and looks capable of improving past a 7lb rise in the weights. Haiti Couleurs had 15 lengths in hand when winning at Aintree last time. He wasn’t stopping at the end of an extended three miles and handled Chepstow well on debut so this track should be fine. He has solid place claims at least. Destroytheevidence got the better of Haiti Couleurs when they met in Wales and ran another decent race when second at Newbury latest. Trainer Kim Bailey is going well and he’s another in with a shout in this tricky contest. Isaac Des Obeaux was placed in Graded company over hurdles and looked in need of the run at Chepstow on return. He should do better but has a bit to find. 1.13 COCO MADEMOISELLE won a couple of times over hurdles but has always looked like a chaser and she went close on her fencing debut at Worcester. She was just pipped after the last over the 2m7f trip so this slight drop in distance should help. You would expect plenty of improvement and he is well handicapped on his hurdles form. Malaita was a winner on her last visit to Cheltenham and wasn’t beaten far at Carlisle last time. She likes this trip and looks a big price to make the frame. Theonewedreamof was last seen running on the Flat but his latest chase run was a winner at Tipperary in July. He looks potentially well handicapped for the canny Gavin Cromwell. Realisation would have won at Lingfield last time but for a mistake at the final fence. She stays well enough and has an each-way shout. Harry Cobden rides Game On For Glory and she finished last season with a fair second around here. She needed her comeback at Market Rasen and is another with place claims. 1.50 MADARA was a massive eyecatcher on debut for the Skeltons in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month. He was a mile back jumping three out before picking up strongly to power up the hill into an ever-closing fourth. Harry Skelton takes over from his less experienced rider today and now connections know he stays, he will hopefully be ridden closer to the pace. He’s better off at the weights with winner Il Ridoto and can turn the form around with the Nicholls runner now on a career-high mark. Grandeur D’Ame was right back to his best when scoring at Chepstow on comeback in October. He was a good fourth in this race 12 months ago and can at least match that effort. Ga Law was a game second in the Paddy Power and can give another good account for in-form trainer Jamie Snowden. This New Course suits him well. With Venetia Williams in such great form, her Gemirande needs a second look. He scooted in at Ascot last time and was a solid fifth in the Grand Annual at the Festival. He’s gone up 8lb but should be competitive. Stage Star goes well around here and needed his comeback run at Aintree. He has plenty of weight but won’t be far away. 2.25 MASTER CHEWY has his sights lowered here after taking a tumble in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek at Sandown last weekend. He warmed up for that with an excellent fourth in a hot handicap at Ascot and has enough quality to defy top weight over his favourite trip. Libberty Hunter looks a threat even returning from eight months off. He ended last season with a cracking third in an Aintree Grade 1 after finishing second in the Grand Annual. Ideally the ground could be a bit softer but he should run well under Harry Cobden. Issar D’Airy has cheekpieces on for the first time after finishing fourth at Newbury last time where he was hampered. He kicked off the season with a good effort at Newbury and has plenty of pace for this trip. He won’t be far away if taking to the headgear. Triple Trade has looked rusty on both outings this season but has dropped to 5lb below his last winning handicap mark. He’s run well here before but needs to find his best. Etalon has been well beaten on his last two and is best watched for now, while Third Time Lucky didn’t show a lot on comeback here last month. He’d been off 18 months so may fare better with that under his belt. 3.00 SKYJACK HIJACK is an owner’s dream as he made it a brilliant six wins on the spin at Newcastle last time. He glides over his hurdles and takes a lot of pegging back from the front. This is much his toughest assignment so far but he has been clocked some excellent times and looks well up to this standard. He goes on any ground and has no stamina worries. French challenger Jet Blue is interesting after a couple of good runs at Auteuil. He was Grade 1 level in bumpers and his trainer has enjoyed Cheltenham success before. Clondaw General cost £150,000 and made a winning start over hurdles at Worcester in October. He’ll build on that if handling this better ground. Western Knight overcame inexperience to land a gutsy win at Ascot three Saturdays ago. He shapes as though this move up in distance will help and doesn’t have to improve much to figure. Aboutdamntime jumped like a natural when winning on debut at Carlisle last time. He needed every yard of the uphill finish there so should relish Cheltenham. 3.35 TAKE NO CHANCES was far from disgraced in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle a fortnight ago and will be happier back at handicap level. She went to Gosforth Park on the back of a 10-length Listed victory at Wetherby and has winning form over to three miles so has no stamina issues. She went close at Chepstow from 1lb lower in October and has more to come. Joyeuse came back from almost a year off with a solid third at Ascot 22 days ago. She shapes as though the step up from two miles will suit and will be fitter for that effort. Wodhooh could be overpriced given she has won Listed hurdles easily on her past two visits to England. She jumped particularly well when scoring at Donny in January and Gordon Elliott should have her fit enough to perform. Pretending led for a long way at Wincanton last time before just fading late on. She has won around here before and could hold on for a place. Georgi Girl was a good winner at Warwick on comeback last month. She has plenty of staying power and a 5lb rise gives her a chance of figuring again for the in-form Hobbs and White training team. DONCASTER 2.05 FORWARD PLAN looked rusty when fourth in the Badger Beers Chase at Wincanton last month. He won this race second-time-out last season and can repeat the feat with the bit of cut in the ground he needs. He’s only 4lb higher than his last win and always runs his race. Gaboriot did well to finish third at Aintree on return given the trip was on the short side. That was a promising effort and he’ll be a threat upped to a more likely distance. More rain would help his chances as soft ground is ideal. Kim Bailey has a good record in this race and his Does He Know has run well enough on both starts this season at Cheltenham. His last win came here and he’s dropped to the same handicap mark. That makes him a danger. Chasing Fire looked in need of the run at Cheltenham last time and should fare better here with cheekpieces going on for the first time. Straw Fan Jack was third in the Festival Plate at Cheltenham three runs ago and was rusty on comeback there last time. He’s down the weights and has an each-way shout. 2.40 WEST BALBOA can get back to winning ways returned to hurdles. She looked all at sea on her two chase runs but she’s a top-level performer over the smaller obstacles and she would be giving lumps of weight away all round if this was a handicap. This trip is fine and all ground seems to come the same to this daughter of the great Yeats. Gale Mahler is the obvious danger but she was a bit disappointing when a well-beaten third at Cheltenham last month. She gets upped in distance here and that could get her back on an even keel. Ottizzini is proven over this three-mile trip despite her blip in bottomless ground at Haydock last time out. She kicked off this season with a convincing win at Ayr and a return to that form could see her hit the forecast spot. Wynenot is another facing a stiffer test of stamina after a solid fourth at Cheltenham 28 days ago. She shapes like a stayer but will have to pull out a bit more. 3.15 NORMAN FLETCHER started this season with an excellent second at Cheltenham and built on that form when scooting in at Huntingdon last month. He had plenty left in the tank and could easily take another step forward here. Deploy To Spy is improving with every run and won on handicap debut at Aintree last month. A 7lb rise in the weights means he’ll have to improve but there’s every chance he will for in-form trainer Olly Murphy. Altobelli is interesting coming back from ten months off for Harry Fry. He kept some smart company last season and went off well backed for the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury where he ran as if he was carrying a niggle. He comes back from a fair mark and a market move would be telling. Jungle Jack looked in need of the run at Bangor last month but he needs to raise his game in this company. Lily Du Berlais struggled in a Grade 2 at Haydock on return and was a winner in her last handicap at Kelso in May. She likes this trip and wouldn’t be a shock placer. EXCLUSIVE Kimberly Guilfoyle puts on a brave face to accept Donald Trump's Greece ambassador nomination after Don Jr.'s betrayal By KAREN RUIZ FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 17:56 EST, 11 December 2024 | Updated: 19:11 EST, 11 December 2024 e-mail 91 View comments Kimberly Guilfoyle officially acknowledged her nomination as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece as it's learned she and fiancé Donald Trump Jr. have called it quits. The Trump campaign advisor, 55, took to social media shortly after the President-elect's announcement Tuesday to say she is 'ready to serve', but stopped short of addressing her crumbling relationship with his son. 'I'm honored to accept President Trump's nomination to serve as the next Ambassador to Greece and I look forward to earning the support of the U.S. Senate ,' she wrote in a post. She added: 'As ambassador, I look forward to delivering on the Trump agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity.' News of Guilfoyle's new high-profile role broke as news Don Jr .'s romance with another woman reached a fever pitch Monday - when he was snapped holding hands with much younger Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson. DailyMail.com exclusively reported on the budding romance in August when the two were seen locking lips during a brunch date , however, both Don Jr., 46, and Kimberly have remained consistently silent on their relationship status ever since. 'She's putting on a brave front, of course, but she was crushed about Don's very public betrayal,' one source told DailyMail.com on Wednesday. 'Once Don fell for Bettina the writing was on the wall for Kimberly. The split was going to happen quietly after the election, but Daily Mail's photos preempted that. Kimberly Guilfoyle proclaimed she is 'ready to serve' as U.S . Ambassador to Greece following her nomination by President-elect Trump on Tuesday News of the Trump campaign advisor's new role came as Guilfoyle and fiancé Donald Trump Jr., 46, (pictured in August 2023) ended their engagement 'It's a pretty humiliating situation,' the insider added. Despite the photographic evidence and mounting rumors indicating their split, Guilfoyle had remained on the scene as a faithful Trump campaign advisor in the lead up to the election and was snapped alongside his family at the president's victory party last month. But her presence at political events has not been enough to quell speculation, as her notable absence at recent family events further sparked curiosity about the couple's future. In an apparent bid to keep up appearances Tuesday, Don publicly congratulated his estranged fiancée in an X post that she then shared on her social media accounts. 'I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First,' he said. Three months after raising questions about his seemingly cozy relationship with Anderson, Don Jr. all but confirmed their romance over the weekend and Monday night when he was seen celebrating her 38th birthday in Palm Beach . A source confirmed to DailyMail.com on Tuesday: 'There is no more Kimberly and Don – at least not romantically. 'Their engagement hasn't officially been called off yet. They were waiting until after the Inauguration to announce.' He's crazy about her.' Exclusive DailyMail.com photos showed the two leaving a restaurant hand in hand after a celebratory dinner for the glamorous brunette. The loved-up couple spent nearly two hours at swanky downtown hotspot Buccan, three miles from her West Palm Beach townhouse where they have been spending days and nights, DailyMail.com revealed earlier on Tuesday. Don Jr . dressed in a smart blue suit and white shirt open at the neck, revealed no compunction about showing off his new flame as they emerged from the restaurant just before 10pm. They came out with another couple and Don Jr. could be heard laughing before they bade the others farewell and headed across the street to his vehicle, totally smitten with each other. Anderson – wearing loose and flowing black pants with a black vest-like top and clutching a maroon purse with a gold clasp – stayed close to her man as they approached his pickup truck parked directly opposite the restaurant, their fingers interlocked. Anderson herself also dropped not-so-subtle hints of their romance, sharing photos of a romantic flower delivery on her Instagram story, on which she discreetly tagged her new beau, @donaldtrumpjr at the top left corner. The photo showed a note sent with the flower arrangement reading: Many have said you're aging out but I think you're perfect...happy birthday!' Earlier on Tuesday, exclusive DailyMail.com photos confirmed Don Jr.'s romance with Bettina Anderson after they were seen celebrating her 38th birthday in Palm Beach the previous night The couple's lovey-dovey dinner Monday night came after a lavish weekend of celebration for Bettina's 38th birthday Read More EXCLUSIVE Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson flaunt romance as they leave her birthday dinner hand in hand Anderson responded to her beau's message in a tongue-in-cheek caption saying: 'Tough but fair.' Guilfoyle got engaged to Trump's eldest son on December 31, 2020, but that was not made public until January 2022. The pair began dating in 2018 following Don's divorce from first wife Vanessa Trump . Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor in San Francisco and one-time wife of Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, became a big name conservative after landing a long-term role with Fox News in 2017. She would soon enter Trump's orbit , becoming one of his political campaign advisers, while embarking on a sensational romance with his eldest son. Once dubbed the 'prom king and queen of MAGA land' Guilfoyle and Don Jr. had bolstered Trump's presidential run with primetime addresses at the National Convention in July and appeared arm-in-arm at rallies across the States but the political love-story would eventually come to a screeching halt. Sources told DailyMail.com at the time that she was 'blindsided' when images emerged late last summer of Don dining with Republican 'it girl' Bettina Anderson, 38. However, just days after that revelation, Guilfoyle was spotted by Don Jr.'s side on his surprise trip to the Balkans. Anderson herself has been dropping not-so-subtle hints of the romance, sharing photos of a romantic flower delivery in an Instagram story, on which she discreetly tagged her new beau, @donaldtrumpjr at the top left corner Don Jr. traveled to Serbia and Romania to deliver the message that a second Trump presidency would ensure an end to Russia's war in Ukraine. This followed another revelation by Daily Mail that Bettina Anderson had been featured in a video schmoozing with the former president's son, his ex-wife and their daughter at a party in Florida, with Kimberly nowhere in sight. Sources close to the couple at the time insisted Kimberly had been invited but had a speaking engagement that night. Alabama flips RB Jace Clarizio from Michigan StateBahawalpur royal state once thrived under the embrace of the Sutlej River. Today, just a division of Punjab, its vibrancy has dimmed, replaced by a grim tapestry of poverty and disease. This transformation is no natural consequence but the direct outcome of human intervention: the drying up of the Sutlej, a casualty of the Indus Waters Treaty and years of mismanagement. Dr. Hassan Abbas, an acclaimed water management expert, recently offered insights that illuminate both the depth of this crisis and a way out. The Sutlej River, historically a source of life and prosperity, was once a blessing for Bahawalpur and its adjoining regions. The river’s seasonal flooding deposited fertile alluvium, enabling agriculture with minimal input. Natural lakes brimming with fish and vast grazing pastures sustained both human and animal populations. The local economy flourished, with goods flowing through trade routes that connected this state to the wider Rajputana regions. However, the partition of British India in 1947 and the subsequent signing of the Indus Waters Treaty in 1960 disrupted this harmony. The treaty allocated the Sutlej entirely to India, leaving Bahawalpur deprived of its lifeline. The impact was devastating. Without the Sutlej’s water, the fertile lands of delta turned to dust. Agriculture dwindled, forcing people to migrate or switch to less productive means of livelihood. Those who stayed battled not just the loss of income but a rising tide of diseases caused by polluted and saline groundwater. Today, Bahawalpur’s hospitals overflow with patients suffering from gastrointestinal, liver, and heart ailments, all tied to the poor quality of water. Dr. Hassan Abbas, who recently led a research initiative in Bahawalpur with a team of international researchers, believes the region’s plight stems from this environmental degradation. “The unusually high numbers of beggars I see in Bahawalpur are the descendants of once-prosperous communities who thrived along the Sutlej. The river’s absence has stripped them of both dignity and livelihood,” he remarked. His assessment aligns with grim statistics: Bahawalpur now suffers from one of the highest malnutrition rates in Pakistan, with 60 percent of its children facing stunted growth due to food insecurity. ‘The river may have dried, but beneath its sands lies the key to renewal.’ Dr. Abbas research offers both a diagnosis and a prescription. His focus has been on the groundwater reserves beneath the Sutlej’s dry riverbed. The floods of 2023, which brought an unprecedented about 7 MAF of water to the area, revealed a silver lining. Half of that water percolated into the ground, replenishing aquifers under the ancient river channel. “These reserves are a hidden treasure,” Dr. Abbas explained. “They hold clean, drinkable water that can meet the needs of the region’s population, livestock, and even sustainable agricultural activity.” He proposes a practical solution: a sustainable water extraction system powered by solar technology. This method, known as Riverbank Filtration (RBF), is already a success in developed countries. By tapping into the groundwater near riverbanks, the system delivers clean water to communities while preserving ecological balance. For Bahawalpur, this approach could transform lives. Dr. Abbas suggests starting with “Smaller Cholistan,” a region situated 20-40 miles from the Sutlej’s course. From there, the model could expand to serve cities, towns, and villages along the river’s path. But his vision does not stop at water. He envisions integrating this water supply into a broader strategy for food security. Rehabilitated pastures could once again support livestock, and the water could irrigate high-value crops, reducing the region’s dependence on external food aid. Dr. Abbas is critical of current government plans, particularly the proposed canal systems aimed at diverting floodwaters from the Chenab River to Bahawalpur. “The planned canals, costing 221 billion rupees, are an outdated and inefficient approach,” he argued. “What happens when there’s no floodwater? Will they take water from central Punjab’s farmers or the perennial canals feeding Cholistan?” This system, he believes, would exacerbate conflicts over water allocation without offering a reliable solution. Instead, he advocates for harnessing Sutlej aquifers through RBF systems. Solar-powered pumps could bring water directly to where it’s needed, eliminating the need for costly infrastructure that depends on unpredictable flood cycles. Additionally, this method would address the pressing issue of groundwater contamination. Water in towns near the Sutlej has become saline, while agricultural runoff has polluted areas where farming persists. Clean water from the aquifers would not only improve public health but also reduce healthcare costs, alleviating some of the economic burden on already struggling families. Cholistan, a region of unparalleled historical and ecological significance, stands at a crossroads as modern agricultural practices threaten its unique heritage. This vast desert is home to the majority of Indus Valley Civilization sites, many of which remain unmapped and unprotected. These archaeological treasures, remnants of one of the world’s earliest urban societies, face the dual threats of plunder and destruction as irrigated agriculture expands. The loss of these sites would not only erase irreplaceable chapters of human history but also diminish Pakistan’s cultural and scientific legacy. Beyond its historical significance, Cholistan serves as a vital sanctuary for migratory birds, including Siberian cranes and the prized houbara bustard. These species depend on the region’s wetlands and seasonal water bodies, which are increasingly jeopardized by unsustainable irrigation practices. The desert’s ecosystem also sustains rare camel breeds and cows adorned with jingling bells, forming the backbone of local pastoral life and culture. Striking a balance between development and conservation is crucial to preserving its ecological richness and archaeological wealth, ensuring that this national In Bahawalpur, once a symbol of self-reliance and prosperity, the absence of the Sutlej has forced people into desperate circumstances. Small landowners, squeezed by population growth and shrinking water resources, can no longer sustain themselves. Many families have abandoned their ancestral homes, migrating to urban slums in Karachi, where survival remains a daily challenge. Dr. Abbas’s findings offer a glimmer of hope. If implemented, his vision could reverse decades of decline. It’s a plan rooted in modern science but guided by the wisdom of nature. By recognizing the Sutlej’s hidden bounty and using it judiciously, Bahawalpur can regain some of the prosperity it once knew. As Dr Abbas left Bahawalpur, his words lingered: “The river may have dried, but beneath its sands lies the key to renewal.” It’s a reminder that while the Sutlej’s surface may no longer flow, its legacy remains – waiting to be rediscovered, harnessed, and shared for the benefit of those who call its banks home.
